Assam Governor, NRC, and Sixth Schedule. Decision on approaching Supreme Court.

The Bhartiya Gorkha Parisangh top office bearer had a two day tour of Assam to meet organizations, community and political leaders, and other stakeholders in the matter of NRC and also on certain matters pertaining to Sixth Schedule areas of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao.
The leaders of prominent Gorkha organizations also include Sh. Krishna Bhujel and Sh. Bhaskar Dahal (AGS) and Sh. Arjun Chetry( AAGSU). After intense discussion they arrived at a decision to approach the Supreme Court in the matter of NRC. They immediately sent a three member team headed by state unit president Sh. Nityananda Upadhyaya to file a petition in the Supreme Court to be made a party in the ongoing hearings on NRC.
They also met Mr. Aabhijeet Sharma, Chairman of APW ( the organization that filed a case in the SC that led to the entire SC monitored exercise on NRC). He has been asked by the SC to give his organization’s comment on the SOP submitted by the government. He readily agreed to the suggestion that GRAZING PERMIT, KHUTI TAX RECEIPTS etc must be considered Land and Tenancy records for NRC purpose. He said he would submit the same in the SC.
They also met Sh. Samujjal Bhattacharya, Chief Advisor of AASU. They had a long and fruitful discussion and he too readily agreed with the suggestion and promised to work together on common issues.

GOVERNOR AND SIXTH SCHEDULE AREAS.

They also met the Governor of Assam, H.E. Jagdish Mukhiya. He was happy to meet them because of their Delhi and DU connection. They spoke to him and discussed at length on the issue of creation of electoral rolls for Council Elections in KADC and the apprehension that non-tribals would be disenfranchised. He has agreed to look into the matter and has asked them to meet him again.The Karbi Anglong unit president Yam Ghimire has been asked to work on this and submit report to the Governor within 15 days. The Governor, as per Constitution, is the custodian of Sixth Schedule areas.
